though there are some "last minute hitches" delaying the peace deal in the Congo, there is also reason to remain cautiously optimistic - one of the Mai Mai militia groups is expressing disarmament issues. observers expect the deal will go through anyway.

the bbc reports that, "The deal is to include an immediate ceasefire, the phased withdrawal of all rebel forces from North Kivu and the resettlement of thousands of villagers."

the EU has promised 150m in aid. once the deal is signed the UN will move peacekeepers into 13 locations who will serve as buffers between the groups.
